Character Profile - Salim Satvamohan

Salim Satvamohan and his parents came to America from India for a better life. His parents work odd jobs to make ends meet so they aren't rich by any means, but what they don't have financially they have with their faith.

Salim is always happy no matter if good or bad things are happening. He can always find the silver lining in the storm clouds. He is also good at giving advice on moral issues so his friends tend to go to him when they are faced with a hard choice.

He gets picked on sometimes because he is different but he never lets it get him down, he strives when he is faced with adversity. Salim uses this knowledge to help his friends when they go on their adventures.

Character Profile - Martin Barker

Martin Barker is the inventor and scientific mind of the bunch. His parents are engineers so he was surrounded by people who create buildings and bridges.

He is always taking things apart to find out how things work, but forgets how to put them together again! Martin knows so much about how machines work, that he is always telling his friends and parents how to fix things, even if they don't want to hear it. This has given Martin the reputation of being someone who can build very complex things, even robots. His friends come to him when they want something invented or fixed.

Since he is smart with machines and school work, he isn't very smart when it comes to common sense, so sometimes he can get in over his head. Denny Keen can relate to him so they often hang out with the gang and explore the neighborhood together.

Character Profile - Dave "Bulldog" Rossi

Dave "Bulldog" Rossi is the brother of another character, Cecelia Rossi. He is older than she is but not wiser. Bulldog is a jock by nature and he excels at sports no matter what the sport is, but he struggles with his studies. He looks out for his sister and gets her out of trouble if she is being picked on in the school yard.

Sometimes though he joins in and sides with the other children picking on her because he is afraid of being an unpopular jock in school. It is something that he struggles with and sometimes it gets him in trouble with his parents. He has a good heart, but his actions sometimes get the better of him. So he tries to play the middle between being popular and protecting his little sister.

He is friends with Denny Keen, but he also sometimes picks on him because he things Denny should be a stronger person and not be so forgetful, worry some, and anxious. Bulldog doesn't realize though that Denny can't help it and doesn't know the real reason why he is like that. In spite of that, Bulldog is a loyal friend and joins Denny and his friends on their adventures.

Cecelia Rossi - Character Profile

Cecelia Rossi comes from an Italian family. She is one of two children. Her dad is a mechanic and her mom is a social worker.

Cecelia has many challenges in life, but her biggest one by far is that of being blind. She doesn't let that stop her from doing what she wants to do and she never gives up on what she wants. She is a pet lover and her dog, Rosco, helps her get to where she needs to go safely. Rosco is a very helpful and playful dog, but sometimes he tends to get sidetracked by things going on around him and he ends up leading Cecelia on many adventures, from helping out a fellow animal in distress or by helping old ladies cross the street. Rosco is a dog that has a good heart and good intentions. Cecelia always has a positive attitude but sometimes she can feel down about not being able to do some of the things that her friends take for granted, like skateboarding, playing baseball, basketball, or just being able to see a sunset. Her brother watches out for her if she gets picked on at school, though sometimes it's hard for him because it makes him unpopular with his friends. She is pretty good at defending herself though, but sometime Rosco thwarts her and they both end up in a sticky situation.

Sally Stein - Character Profile

Sally's interest includes reading a lot of books and showing everyone how smart she is. Her parents run a grocery store so she tends to go there after school once in a while to hang out. Most of the time, she can be found sitting under a tree enjoying a good book while her friends play and cause havoc in the neighborhood.

Sally has a very high I.Q., but she isn't too swift fixing things that break down, so she usually asks one of her friends to help her if she needs to.
Sally isn't shy at all and is always giving her opinions on topics like politics, current world events, and local issues that affect her in school, like the quality of school lunches and running student council.

Most of her friends though tend to get annoyed by her.
When problems arise, she tends to use logic and common sense to solve it. Sally also strives to be a leader and sometimes can come across as being a little bossy.

Meet Denny Keen!

Hello Everyone!

This is the first of 6 characters that I have designed for my newspaper comic strip. My inspiration for him drew from things that I have struggled with off and on throughout my life. So let me introduce him to you all!

His name is Denny Keen, the name itself is a play on words. Keen, or at least the word is defined as something having a sharp or strong quality to it. Here is a description of his character.

Like some of us, he is afraid or anxious about what others think or say about him. Denny is always afraid of talking to anyone about his problems in fear that they will not truly understand what he is going through, so he tends to come up with unique ways of solving his problems. Sometimes his solutions backfire, like they do for some of us, and he digs himself a deeper hole than what he was in before.

If he walks into a crowded room, he thinks they are talking about him even though they aren't. Denny worries about the small things, like what the next day has in store for him, or how much schoolwork he is going to get.

He is always afraid about disappointing those that he is close to. Denny also keeps his friends at arms length due to the fact that he is always nervous and anxious about them betraying his trust. Denny Keen though is a good kid with a good heart and is always nice to everyone even when they are mean to him.

Now that you have met him, in the next few days, I will introduce you to his group of friends.
